Tree House Bugs

By Klutz

Is it a book or is it a toy? Who cares, it’s a lot of fun! Crack open Tree House Bugs and you quickly realize that the walls of a 360-degree tree house are contained inside, complete with doors, windows and furniture. But it gets better. Open the package on the front of the book and you have everything you need to create five wacky bugs to live in that tree house — pipe cleaner arms and legs, beads for the head and body! And at the back of the book you’ll find pop-out paper wings, fold-up furniture and lots of fun stickers with which to decorate your bugs and their home.

Shrek Cookbook

By Glenn Dakin

Ummm…at first we weren’t sure that taking cooking tips from Shrek was such a good idea. Just looking at the guy doesn’t exactly stoke your appetite. But it turns out this gorgeous book of Shrek-inspired cookery is full of real, tasty, easy-to-make recipes. Sure, they may have funny names like Swamp Rat Kebabs and Frogspawn Jelly, but the dishes are all things you’ve probably eaten before. For instance, the Mini Eyeball Pizza is just a little pizza with tomato sauce, cheese and an olive arranged to look like an eyeball. And Stir-Fry Worms and Insects is simply an Asian stir-fry with egg noodles pretending to be worms. No surprise, you’ll also get a recipe for Gingybread Men and another for Marvelous Muffins, straight from The Muffin Man.

Chester

By Melanie Watt (and Chester)

If you have a cat, you know that as soon as you try to do something important your cat tries to get in the way, especially when that something important involves paper and/or a pen. Try to read the newspaper, there’s kitty plopping herself down in the middle of the comics. Try to write a letter to a friend, there she is again chasing the pen around the page. Author Melanie Watt had the same problem when she sat down to write a story about a mouse. Her cat Chester kept getting in the way and rewriting the story so it would be about him! The result is a hilarious and adorable story involving a frustrated writer, her egomaniacal cat, an irritated mouse, a big red marker and a bright pink tutu.
