Speed Racer is the hottest thing on four wheels — a race car driver
who’s not afraid to step on the gas and take chances on his way to the
checkered flag.
Speed is the son of race car designer Pops Racer, who engineered
Speed’s ride, the lightning fast Mach 5. Speed’s older brother, Rex,
was killed in a race, but his younger brother, Sparky, makes himself
useful by keeping the Mach 5 tuned up. And then there’s Trixie, Speed’s
girlfriend, who loyally supports his racing dreams.
Speed’s only real competition on the track is the mysterious driver named Racer X. No one knows his identity, and while he may be a better driver than Speed, he shies away from the spotlight.
Royalton
Industries, the number one racing team, wants Speed to race for them,
but he won’t leave his family team. Big mistake Speed! No one refuses
Royalton, and if they do Royalton gets
its revenge...on the track.

That means Speed is a marked man. His only hope of stopping Royalton’s meddling is to enter the dangerous, cross-country race known as The Crucible. If he can win that, then Speed will prove, once and for all, that he’s the world’s best driver.
