What’s black and white and wet all over? The penguins who star in the animated surfing comedy Surf’s Up
Okay, if you saw Happy Feet you know some penguins can dance. But did you know some of them can surf? And that they invented surfing? That juicy bit of information isn’t common knowledge, but that’s all going to change thanks to the animated comedy Surf’s Up.

In the movie, a documentary film crew is filming the penguin world’s
most competitive event, the Big Z Memorial Surf Off, which takes place
on the shores of the beautiful Pen Gu Island. Specifically, they are
following around a teenage penguin named Cody Maverick, who’s left his
frozen home on Antarctica to compete in the Surf Off.
Cody is something of a surfing prodigy, having been inspired to surf
by Big Z, the penguin who invented surfing. But the Surf Off is Cody’s
first pro event and the competition is stiff, with a big, strong
penguin named Tank being his greatest foe.

However, the fun-loving Cody has a group
of friends supporting him. His pal Chicken Joe is his number-one fan,
the cute lifeguard Lani Aliikai thinks he’s talented (and cute), and
his coach, an old hippie-dippy surfer named Geek, believes his pupil
can capture surfing glory.
Surf's Up opens June 8.
