In Inkheart, a father and daughter battle fictional characters who’ve come to life
Keeping secrets can be very dangerous. That’s the lesson Mo learns when he decides to keep a very big secret from his 12-year-old daughter, Meggie, in the action-packed movie Inkheart (based on the book by Cornelia Funke).

Mo is a bookbinder — that’s a person who repairs old books — and he
and Meggie travel around the world restoring books. Mo has taught
Meggie to love books and reading, but strangely enough, Meggie can’t
remember him ever reading a book aloud to her.
And there’s a reason for that. When Mo reads a book he really enjoys
out loud, he can bring characters and objects from the book into our
world. That’s what happened 10 years earlier when Mo was reading the
adventure story Inkheart to his wife, Resa, and baby Meggie. Suddenly, out of nowhere, three characters from Inkheart
— the evil ruler Capricorn, the fire-eater Dustfinger and Capricorn’s
servant Basta — appeared in our world, while Resa disappeared into Inkheart’s world.

Mo and baby Meggie ran away from the Inkheart characters, but now, a decade later, they have tracked Mo down and his secret has been revealed to Meggie. The men want to return to their universe, and will stop at nothing to make sure Mo sends them home. The problem is, Mo doesn’t know how to send them back, meaning his and Meggie’s lives are in peril!
