Editor’s Note

He’s just not that into who?!

We were having this conversation around the office. It seemed like a shame, we agreed, that He’s Just Not That Into You — a movie about various women having trouble finding good guys — would cast some of the most stunning starlets in Hollywood.

C’mon. Where’s the realism, where’s the credibility in a movie that has beauties Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson, Drew Barrymore, Ginnifer Goodwin (who just gets cuter every day) and our cover girl, Jennifer Connelly, as a gaggle of gals who are spurned, rejected, ignored or let down by the men in their lives — if they can even find men in the first place?

Perhaps, we thought, the film fell victim to one of the flaws of the hugely popular self-help book on which it’s based. That book, by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, loves to tell the reader she deserves to have a fantabulous relationship because she is “hot,” “pretty,” “beautiful,” and a “superfox.” But, if the reader is anything like me, the voice in her head responds, “How do you know that? Let’s be honest, based solely on statistics, at least some of your readers are unattractive — inside and out.”

Then it hit me. Beauty is no antidote to romantic tribulation. David Justice and Eric Benét both cheated on Halle Berry. Raffaello Follieri conned fiancée Anne Hathaway right along with all those real-estate investors. And Brad Pitt left one of this very movie’s sexiest stars, Jennifer Aniston, for another woman.

Fortunately, things seem to be going better for Connelly. The Oscar winner, who’s certainly no slouch in the looks department, has been married to fellow thespian Paul Bettany for six years. In fact, her next movie, Creation, has her starring opposite her hubby for the first time since they met on the set of 2001’s A Beautiful Mind, and Connelly says they were “like giggly kids” throughout the experience. Giggling is good, especially since prior to He’s Just Not That Into You Connelly hadn’t made a comedy in 18 years. Get the full story in “Connelly Makes a Comedy? Get Out.”

As far as we know, Dakota Fanning has yet to have her first boyfriend. The child star turns 15 years old this month, and also releases two big movies — Push and Coraline. In “Sweet 15,” the seemingly precocious teen insists she has always felt her age — even when casting her ballot for the Academy Awards. That’s right, she’s been an Academy member for three years.

Speaking of the Academy Awards, we present our annual Oscars Section — trivia, party tips and a look at this year’s host, Hugh Jackman. Plus, we’ve given you a handy Oscar ballot, which lists all the nominees. Print it and pass it around to create your own Oscar pool. (Famous magazine in no way endorses gambling where prohibited by law. Prizes of beer and chocolate-chip cookies must be okay though, no?)
